I picked up this tip from Career Success Community member and well-known career author, Katy Piotrowski in her book, "The Career Coward's Guide to Career Advancement." Katy talks about the hypothesis that most people can endure practically anything for five minutes. She proposes that we consider the "five-minute experiment" when tackling something that we "fear" or tend to avoid because it takes us out of our comfort zone or we otherwise dread doing it. So....
TRY THIS TODAY: Try the "five-minute experiment." Choose something you've been putting off or avoiding, for whatever reason. Maybe it's a letter you need to write, an email you need to send, or simply getting your desk organized.
Tell yourself this: "I'll do this for five minutes and then I give myself permission to QUIT if I choose to at the end of that five minute period." Most people are willing to endure an activity for five minutes. And often, once you've begun it, you decide to keep going.
Try the five-minute experiment TODAY.
